Born in 1955 in Pasadena, CA, and now based in New York, Barry X Ball has revitalized the ancient tradition of figurative sculpture with his use of unconventional materials and techniques.
Utilizing a sophisticated array of technologies and methods—from 3D digital scanning and virtual modeling to 3D printing and computer-controlled milling, complemented by meticulous hand carving and polishing—Ball’s works pay homage to historical precedents while completely redefining them. His sculptures, known for their intense dynamism and surreal tranquility, make a compelling argument for the reevaluation of contemporary sculptural practices.
